Riverview Garden Club
The Riverview Garden Club was organized in May of 1954 and meeting on the second Wednesday of the month ever since then. From the inception, the club has been very active within the community and remain so today. They have beautified U.S. 301, the library, planted many trees in town, hosts flower shows, plant sales and even fostered Florida state legislation to save the Alafia River from possible phosphate pollution.
Past club endeavors have been planting a holly tree the the Riverview Civic Center, with a dedication plaque, in memory of those lost on 9-01-2001; donating to several public schools' butterfly gardens, yearly donations to Meals on Wheels, and the VA Entertainment fund. Most recently, the club has established and awarded an annual college scholarship, a donation to Postage for the Troops, took part in the Relay for Life and Earth Day project at Riverview High School, and participated in large planting projects at Boyette Springs Elementary and Riverview High School.
The club's yearly fundraisers are a Spring Plant and Rummage Sale and a Fall Plant Sale. This year's Fall Plant Sale will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2009. The sale runs from 7:00 am - 1:00 pm and located in the parking lot at the River Oaks Shopping Center on west side of US 301 just north of Gibsonton/Boyette Road.
